Will you fly Dana air? Nigerians speak

published on Friday, 7 September 2012

For a while now, I've been getting tips on the Dana Air reinstatement buzz, but I was too mad to blog about it! Why should Dana Air fly again? Would you even fly with them? This country though!

Here's an article by Ibiene George that caught my eye;

"Many Nigerians are having mixed feelings about the lifting of the suspension placed on Dana Airline following the crash that killed the 153 passengers and cabin crew and injured several on the ground on June 3, 2012.
NET sampled the opinions of Nigerians over this issue and asked if they would still fly Dana. While some said they would, others said they couldn't risk it.
Victoria Etim Unogu said 'I don't think so because I have never flown Dana, Arik is my flight. Moreover I lost two of my church members in the Dana crash and one is my friend.'
Another woman, Happiness Isaac responded 'God forbid…. Once bitten…..'
Meanwhile, Clara Nkwocha a master's graduate from the University of Jos said 'why should I? Dana of all the airlines? Olowu ma je o!' and Modupe, a fresh NYSC graduate said 'No, I would rather pay twice to save my life, e no get duplicate.'
Mrs Falilat Agbi also expressed her reservations, saying 'Noooo, I will not, I am afraid and if anything happens I would be held responsible.'
However, others said they would give Dana another chance.
Olaolade Jesufemi, a staff of Friesland Plc says he would fly the airline, because 'Aero once crashed and it is the most flown airline in Nigeria today'.  He explained that the airline would now be more safety conscious than other airlines. Agreeing with him was Esther Peters, who said 'yes I would fly them because I know they will take caution.'
Similarly, Tosin Leye, a staff of KPMG audit firm says, 'yes I would fly the airline when it resumes full operation'.
The ban on the airline was placed on June 5, 2012, following the crash of one of its flights from Abuja to Lagos.
The Federal Government lifted the ban on the airline's Operating Licence on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, after it was said to have ascertained the airworthiness of the airline.
However, this decision was greeted with outrage, especially amongst Human Rights Activists and the Nigeria Labour Congress,who said the decision was taken too hastily, as Nigerians were yet to recover from the shock of the June 3 crash.
You too can add your voice to the conversation. Will you be flying Dana anytime soon?"
