Chris Brown and Tyga for Dami Duro Remix, Rick Ross On Back When Remix – Davido Tells MTV
published on
The Wrap Up's Afrobeat columnist Nonny Orakwue recently caught up with Davido – one of Nigeria's hottest new kids on the block. Making his emergence on the scene in 2011 with the smash 'Back When', the teenage artist and producer has already performed to audiences in four continents, opened for D'Banj and been nominated for a string of awards. We speak to Davido about the evolution of the Nigerian music industry, his heart throb status and more…
TWU: How would you describe your sound in three words?
Davido: Sexy, enjoyable and danceable.
TWU: You could be described as a triple threat with your skills in performing and production. How did you start out?
Davido: I started as a producer at first in Nigeria, just pushing local artists, then I just thought I would sing. I got tired of taking my work to the studio to get mixed, so I learnt that too and that's how I got into the producing, singing and engineering.
TWU: Which artists have influenced your sound and music?
Davido: A lot of Nigerian artists, from 2Face to D'Banj. I like American music as well, people like Timbaland, Pharrell, Vybz Kartel, Movado a mixture of stuff really.
TWU: You're best known for your two distinctive hits 'Back When' and 'Dami Duro'. If you could have any artist remix them, who would it be?
Davido: Chris Brown and Tyga for 'Dami Duro' because I heard a DJ mix on the internet where they put Chris Brown's verse on it and it was insane. For 'Back When' I'd put Rick Ross on it for something hard.
TWU: What was the inspiration behind 'Dami Duro and 'Back When'?
Davido: I recorded 'Back When' in London on Old Kent Road. I just did it; I came back from the club and went straight into the studio and that's when it just came out – thank God it worked. I recorded 'Dami Duro' back in October. In Nigeria I was getting a lot of critics asking if I was a one hit wonder, so I made that song for the haters really – but I'm happy with how it came out.
TWU: You hooked up with UK afrobeats artist Dotstar on the 'Expensive' remix. How did that come about and do you have plans to work with any other UK artists?
Davido: My manager was helping Dotstar with some stuff when I heard that Dr. Sid was there – me and him are close, so I just hopped on it. I want to work with Tinie of course. And L Marshall; we went to high school together before he moved out here and we're planning to do something as well. Tinchy too… that's it really.
TWU: When you're not making music, what do you usually get up to?
Davido: I chill with my cousins and friends… but my life has always been around music. I'm trying not to slow down because in this industry I feel like there's always somebody out there that's hungrier than you and wants your spot. If you try and relax, somebody will take it. So I'm Just trying to work, work, work… I'm not even trying to take a break at all.
TWU: Which three items can't you leave the house without?
Davido: My phone, of course! My headphones, because I try and take them everywhere so that I can listen to stuff… and my ATM card.
TWU: Right now in African entertainment you're seen as a bit of a heartthrob. What is your ideal woman?
Davido: I don't really have an ideal woman, it is just whoever I fall in love with; but she would be smart and have her own money because I'm not into girls who just want money. I'd like someone who has her own goals and who would support my stuff.
TWU: You and the whole HKN crew are quite distinct in your style – you dress in a similar fashion to UK and US artists. What has been the response from the older generation in Nigeria?
Davido: If I am performing at a wedding or something I make sure not to expose my body, but I feel like the people that really care about things like that are getting older and younger people are replacing them. In America, there are a lot of things you can get away with in the industry – you can have sex tapes or pictures of people smoking and people don't really care. I am not saying that it is right, but I feel like in Nigeria people are moving more towards that direction; but people have to be careful. I look at myself as a role model and I wouldn't want kids looking at me saying 'Davido has tattoos, I want tattoos!'
TWU: Speaking about the evolution of the Nigerian music industry, where do you see it going?
Davido: I see it going super international. We have D'Banj working with Big Sean and Kanye West and P Square working with Akon. It's crazy, it's about to go down!
TWU: Finally, what features or collaborations can we expect from you in the future?
Davido: I have tunes with Ice Prince and Wizkid coming out, and May D… and I would like to work with Flavour.

Meet The Teenage Girl Who Has Transformed Herself Into A Living Cartoon Character
published on Saturday, 29 September 2012
Anime fan Anastasiya Shpagina has transformed herself into a living cartoon character, complete with miniature waist, vividly-coloured hair, and a cupid's bow pout.
Originally from the Ukraine, the 19-year-old takes style inspiration from the cartoons and computer animations that have a huge following in Japan, and has even adopted a Japanese name – Fukkacumi.
Anime characters often feature huge eyes and heads that are disproportionately large in comparison to their body.
Shpagina, who is just 5ft2ins tall, is already reported to have slimmed down to just over six stone in her attempts to resemble a living anime character, and is said to spend 30 minutes painstakingly applying her dramatic make-up to each one of her eyes.
It is thought Shpagina may go even further in her efforts to achieve her desired look, with some reports claiming she intends to undergo surgery on her eyes to make her resemble her anime idols even more closely.
The teenager, who has over 10,000 fans on Facebook, also posts videos on YouTube demonstrating how she applies her make-up.
One clip, in which Shpagina reveals to fans how she achieves her 'flower fairy' look, has been watched more than 150,000 times
Shpagina is not the first young girl to take style inspiration from the world of fantasy. American Dakota Rose – or Kota Koti – has been dubbed the 'real-life Barbie' thanks to her doe-eyed stare and dainty proportions.
The teenager has amassed a global audience by posting fashion and beauty tutorials on YouTube.

“But, I am wearing a hat” – Man arrested for walking naked on beach
published on
Parrish, 52, was arrested shortly before 9 p.m. after a Flagler Beach police officer David Arcieri allegedly saw him walking south on the boardwalk naked. Well, except for the hat.
Arcieri said the suspect was completely nude and made no attempt to cover or conceal himself, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
The officer noted in his police report that the suspect was walking near a 7-11 and a seafood restaurant, so his privates could be seen by "women, children and elderly people in the area."
No witnesses wanted to be involved, but the whole incident was reportedly captured by an in-car camera that will reportedly be used as evidence, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Parrish was charged with indecent exposure and transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility where he was booked, according to the Palm Coast Observer.
He was later released after posting $500 bail.

Totally Nude: Kate Middleton’s “topless and bottomless” photos published by Danish magazine
published on
But even though Closer got an official injunction, other European tabloids like Chi went ahead and published the photos. One of them, the Danish magazine Se og Hør, ran a series this week that promised photos of Kate Middleton completely nude — not just topless. The grainy photos, which appear to have just made their way to the Internet on Friday, would seem to be more scandalous than the first; the mag claims they show the duchess not just topless, but sans her bikini bottoms as well.
The scanned photos were picked up by Egotastic and other websites.
Se og Hør had been promising to print the Kate photos since earlier in the month: "It's a set of unique photos from an A-class celebrity," Se og Hør Editor Kim Henningsen told the Belfast Telegraph. "We are a leading gossip magazine in Denmark, and it is my job to publish them. If the British royal family want to sue us, then it will happen then and we'll deal with it."

Sad End Of An NYSC Corper, She Survived Boko Haram In The North To Be Gunned Down In Onitsha
published on
It was quite sad that Augusta, who had survived a series of hostilities and bombings by the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in Adamawa State, where she observed her one-year mandatory national youth service, would painfully meet her untimely death in a place she felt was her home.
Her voice was filled with joy when she spoke to her relatives in Owerri on phone, telling them that she had finally come home. She told them that she was at the luxurious park in Upper Iweka, informing them also that she would join them in Owerri the next morning. But she never lived to see the faces of her loved ones, as she was gruesomely murdered by unknown persons that fateful night.
Daily Sun gathered that the deceased, a graduate of Banking and Finance from the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State, was found lying in the pool of her own blood at the notorious fly-over at Upper Iweka on September 12.
According to a family member and the Vice Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Imo State Council, Chief Chris Akaraonye, Chizoba left Yola, the capital of Adamawa State on September 11 where she was having her NYSC primary assignment. She was travelling to Onitsha en route Owerri but could not get to her final destination that time because it was already late.
Chief Akaraonye further said the deceased, who had boarded a luxurious bus belonging to a popular transport company (names withheld), called her relatives to inform them that she could not make it again to Owerri. She also informed them that she had decided to pass the night at the company's motor park together with other passengers. However, according to him, the following day, the family of the deceased, including her fiancé, waited in anxiety for the arrival of Chizoba in Owerri but to no avail. They then started trying her mobile line, but it had been switched off.
"At first, we thought she had a low battery. But after waiting for almost the whole day, we realized it was not usual and we decided to make moves to know why somebody that spoke to us at 10 pm last night could not be reached on phone or could not get to Owerri. In the course of our doubts and fears, we started going through different police stations and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) formations along the Onitsha-Owerri Road to ascertain if she was involved in a motor accident.
It was when we came to Onitsha that we found her corpse at the Onitsha General Mortuary with gunshot wounds to her chest." In the next morning, early passersby were shocked to their marrow when they beheld the gory sight of a lady lying in the pool of her own blood at the Upper Iweka axis with two travelling bags filled with children clothing and popcorn. One of the eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity said that the deceased was a victim of ritual killers.
She confirmed that she was found lying at the Upper Iweka flyover with gunshot wounds on her chest and two travelling bags containing children clothes and popcorn beside her corpse. Though the police swiftly said the deceased could be the victim of an armed robbery attack, they also revealed that the bags were planted by the assailants to divert police investigations, stressing that the police had commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder.
The Campaign for Democracy (CD), South East Zone has reacted to the incident, describing it as a sin against God and humanity. The group called for proper investigations into the matter with a view to unravelling the circumstances surrounding the senseless killing of the deceased. The Chairman, South East Zone, Dede Uzor. A. Uzor condemned the act while calling on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubarka to personally detail a crack team of investigative police officers to look into the death of the corps member. Dede Uzor further questioned the omission of the deceased's name in the passengers' manifest and the alleged role that the transport company played when they returned the bags of the deceased to Yola without contacting the police.
Also speaking on the incident, Chairman of Ndigbo Unity Forum, Mr. Augustine Chukwudum condemned the act, describing it as the most wicked act and cruelty ever meted out to any corps member in the history of the state. Mr. Chukwudum also said his group would mobilize to make sure that criminal elements are sacked from the commercial city. He said the presence of such criminals was hindering the development of commerce and industry in the city.
However, policemen attached to the Central Police Station, CPS, Onitsha led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Abdul Yusuf said they have arrested three persons in connection with the death of the corps member, adding that they were still working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder of the deceased.
The police said, though, that it could be possible that the girl was murdered at the park by some criminals who then took her body to the Upper Iweka where they kept two bags containing clothes belonging to a boy of six years just to divert police investigations.
According to the police, the deceased was not a victim of ritual killing.
It was further gathered that the driver of the luxury bus that brought the deceased from Yola to Onitsha on that fateful night, the manager of the transport company and one other person whose identities were not yet known as at press time have been arrested by the police.
They were picked up to allegedly help give insight to the death of the corps member as well as explain how and why the management of the company swiftly returned the bags of the deceased to Yola without informing the police. When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ralph Uzoigwe confirmed that three persons have been arrested by the police to help them in the course of investigations.
He appealed to the general public to help the police with more information that could lead to the arrest of the real killers of the corps member.

Paul Okoye Reveals The Woman In His Life: “Na She Dey Sweet Pass” He Says
published on Friday, 28 September 2012
All he has told us is her name, Anita – nothing much but which in itself is a big revelation. How many of us, especially men who are 'ladies men' can emphatically declare our love for the one true woman in our life? So when next you hear the name Anita mentioned in a song by Psquare, listen very well Because you just might hear the rest of the story there.
Anyways, here's what Paul has to say about Anita:
"I started dating her when I was nobody and today, she has become part of me. She is my best friend and I am not seeing her as my girlfriend because she is more than that. If it were somebody I met when my career is blooming, I am sure we would have been having problems. But she is somebody who doesn't bother about who I am. She has this belief of do your own thing and let me do mine. She is a nice person even though every woman has her fault. She is in fact the best thing and the worst thing. When I say best, she is the best thing that makes me happy but she is also the only thing that makes me sad. Whenever she does something that hurts, it will hurt me the more. If we both have a quarrel, the pain is worse. Na she dey sweet pass and at the same time, na she dey pain pass."

Gone wild? Drunken Rihanna, fighting, vomiting in club, restrained by security – See Photo
published on
Sadly, she was recently spotted looking overly drunk at 1 OAK in Las Vegas while partying with Ne-Yo. Riri is reported to have let herself get so drunk that she started vomiting on the dance-floor as she was dancing. A source who witnessed the pop star's drunken stupor says that she threw up into a napkin and someone who was with her had to give her a towel so that she could get herself cleaned up.
The really low moment of the night came when Riri decided to get into a verbal altercation with some random man. In her fuzzy haze, she told off the man and that was enough for the club security to get involved and restrain the Bajan singer.
Even after that incident, Riri and her crew still didn't call it a night. They continued to party right up until 5:30am, finishing their night of partying at a strip club.
Hopefully when Rihanna sobered up she decided to take a break from the club and party scene and maybe keep a low profile for a while.

Read it below;
Their canoes drift on the water as piles of rubbish float outside their shacks.
Shabby shacks on stilts, floating waste and rickety boats fill the expanse of murky water.
But for the thousands of poor people forced to live in Nigeria's infamous Makoko slum in Lagos, this is their home.
People paddle canoes through the oily water on the floating slum. The waterways are their 'paths' and the community has been established there since the 18th century
Despite the every day hardship the youngsters face, the children beam when they see a camera and still laugh and play like their more privileged peers in richer parts of the world
Every day life for the many fishermen and their families revolves around paddling and rowing through the filthy, oily water in the slum – but this does not stop the young children from beaming when they see a camera.
Authorities threatened to knock down the dilapidated homes, which are classed as 'illegal' buildings and have been branded an 'environmental nuisance', the BBC reported.
The threat, which was issued in July and gave residents just 72 hours notice, saw some homes reportedly having their stilts hacked off and shacks being destroyed.
The move struck fear in many of the dwellers hearts and they feared they would be left without shelter as they had nowhere to go or anyone to turn to.
A man stands on the dock of a proposed floating school in the smoggy surrounding of the slum. Authorities reportedly demolished a part of Makoko, displacing many dwellers there
