More on the DJ Tee Assault: Tolani Alvin Osungade's side of the story!

published on Friday, 29 June 2012

My name is Tolani Alvin Osungade, and this is what really happened between Dj Tee and I...... Firstly, the video shoot was suppose to start @ 10am and I was there to support my friend "malcoholic" the owner of the video shoot. He (malcoholic) told to me invite friends (video girls and guys) which I did. The video shoot did not start early because it rained and the location was being cleaned. And due to the fact that the shoot didn't start on time, people were having refreshments, guys were drinking (including dj tee and his crew). As this was going on, comments were going round that dj tee just insulted some girls I don't know due to them asking for payment to be in the video and i also heard dj tee was going to call his own people to come and replace them.

Finally, my friends came by 5:30pm, and when they came and saw the set up they made their thoughts known to me that they don't do videos for free but they were being insulted by some guys I don't know myself but there was no fight and I did my best to calm them down and they decided to stay. My brother (Dolapo) came by 6pm with his friend, and Dolapo immediately made it clear to me that he didnt like the set up (the environment) as well and was going to leave in a bit. But I told him to stay just to support Malcoholic and he said "the only reason he's staying was because of me", and my invited friends also said the same thing because they were all tired of waiting and the video shoot had still not started since 1pm. Finally, the shoot started @ 7:30 and dj tee started calling people to come on set but there was little response due to people being tired from waiting all day then Dj started getting aggressive, his voice was getting louder, I was actually part of the first 5 to go on set and my brother (Dolapo) came along with me without his friend making us 6, few mins later, almost everybody joined. Some minutes later, I saw dolapo's friend walking away and I asked her where she was going and she only pointed at dj tee and she said he just insulted her and she was leaving, while this was going on, dj tee was lashing out at the people that were not on set yet, in his words "get these bitches out, get these bitches downstairs", Dolapo's friend was leaving the set then dj tee asked her what was wrong?

Sincerely speaking, I didn't hear her response but dj tee was speaking loud so I heard him say "bitch" and people went there to find out what the problem was. I didnt go with them because I was still on set and Kaffy (the dancer) was already coordinating us but I was looking towards that direction. Then I started hearing noise like a fight was going on and people were saying "dj tee leave him" and I also heard "Dolapo go" then I knew it was dj tee and my brother , then I went there. On getting there, the stairs was blocked and I could not see him and just wanted to get there to be sure he was ok and get him out because dj tee was saying "awon eruku mi da" in english "where are my thugs" "don't let him go, he must not leave this place alive" because he claimed dolapo slapped him so he was saying "do you know who I am, how dare you" and he kept on ranting "I'll kill you" "don't let him go, he must not leave here alive" while dj tee was trying to get to him in person. My sister was begging him and telling him "dj tee, he's my brother, please leave him" and to get his attention, she threw an empty fanta can drink at dj tee then he and his boys looked but paid her no attention.

I struggled my way out finally and I saw Dolapo practically running out and dj tee was chasing him and he instructed them to lock the gate and he then said to his boys "efo igo nibeyen, gbogbo igo ti eba ri, efo, ki e gun" in english "break bottles, find him and stab him" and his boys did as instructed and asked for permission to kill him (Dolapo) and dj tee said "yes, stab him". Dj tee found him, tried to beat him but he was being held back, then he saw a bottle on the floor, picked up and broke it, dolapo's female friend saw this and she went to plead with him and he pushed her into a gutter and looked away and was trying to go back to Dolapo with the broken bottle then I started pleading with him and he was shooting me dirty looks and he was saying "ti iwo oba kuro ni waju mi, ma te oju e mole" in english (get out of my way before I hurt you) .Still trying attack Dolapo, I still pleaded with him, then he stabbed my head and just walked away like it was nothing. Soaked in blood, I was still looking for Dolapo but didnt know he had been informed to run because dj tee had broken a bottle and was still looking for him. My sister saw me bleeding and she tried getting me out of the place with help of mr Dele (owner of d location).

As we we're running out, dj tee and his boys were still coming after us with sticks and bottles and dj tee was still saying "kill him don't let him go". We got to the gate and it was locked so they caught up with us, seeing that I was already bleeding, I was ignored and dj tee and his boys then faced my sister (Bolaji) and beat her up. She was pleading and still getting beaten and threatened added that "if she is asked about the incident, she should say I fell on a bottle"Then the mr Dele (owner of the venue) ordered the gatement to open the gate because I had to be rushed to a hospital then we were let out. Dj tee and his boys vandalized a family friends car who came to support as well because he was also pleading with dj tee and his boys to let Dolapo go. I remember dj tee saying "I will kill you, I can do this and get away with it, you are too small to me, do you know who I am in this industry"...

In addition, I am not looking for cheap publicity neither am i trying to slander anybody's name or image, I am from a very respectable home and background and this is known to all. This is just very painful because people are saying all sorts and nobody has an idea of what i'm going through, I've been scared for life whether Dj Tee gets punished for this crime or not, I am not after a pity party but the fact that Dj Tee thinks that he is untouchable and can get away with this is why my family is enraged and will make sure this ends here, and quoting what i wrote on my twitter page earlier "I've never been aggressive about anything in my life and neither do I cause trouble, @adetokunbodjtee, you took advantage of my youth, justice will be done" I'm deeply disappointed if this is how someone who calls himself a public figure acts or treats the public.

DJ Tee Denies stabbing Salawa Abeni's son!

published on

So today, a good friend supplied me with gist that DJ Tee stabbed Salawa Abeni's son; Alvin Tolani Osungade in the face with a bottle last night on the set of a video shoot at Daily Times Factory Ikeja. The freaky thing is that 3 of the Osungade siblings almost lost their lives last night.
DJ Tee AKA Adetokunbo Odubawo, allegedly stabbed Alvin and assaulted his two siblings. The 19yr old Alvin better known by his stage name TLboi had gone to support an upcoming artiste; Malcolm's video shoot with his two siblings; 22-year-old Dolapo aka Deeking and younger sister, 17 year-old Mobolaji.

According to what I heard, everything was fine until DJ Tee asked for those who were to appear in the video shoot; including Tolani and Dolapo, to move to the set while the others out of shooting range. Dolapo's girlfriend who wasn't supposed to be in the shoot stayed on set.

An eye witness; O'tuga Suzzie, a witness and family friend to the Osungade's tweeted late last night that; this angered DJ Tee and he rudely told her to get out, "He started screaming for her to get out, calling her bitch and stuff".

According to TheNetNg, Dolapo, got angry and tried to caution DJ Tee, but he slapped dolapo and and asked his boys who were also at the shoot to beat him up. They allegedly started to beat him and his sister Mobolaji screamed and watched and DJ Tee asked his boys to beat her up too. As Tolani tried to intervene in the whole matter, DJ Tee approached Dolapo to stab him with a bottle he just broke. Alvin intervened and DJ Tee stabbed him in the face. He then had them all thrown out of the factory and continued with the shoot. Tolani is now receiving treatment at the Ikeja Medical Centre.

But the top music director has been telling everyone that he didn't stab Alvin. According to him, Alvin who is an upcoming artist, slapped him after an argument and some of his guys pounced on him. Alvin smashed a bottle against hard metal above their heads, it shattered and the pieces cut him and DJ Tee. This is apparently how he got the injury in the picture.

Here's DJ Tee's tweet;

"Bro, I did not stab you…….why are people saying I picked up a bottle & stabbed you with it on your face". DJ Tee tweeted at Alvin.

"He [Alvin[ was an extra on shoot I did today, its long story anyway he smashed a bottle against hard metal above our head. The bottle shattered and cut me and him….broken pieces that was shattered around us. The stabbing thingy was not true…..it was shattered broken pieces anyway. It's all good", @DJTee explains as he tweeted at bloggers Twitter handles.

Alvin is yet to give his own side of the story but his sister confirms that DJ Tee actually stabbed him.

Drake and Chris Brown offered $1million for a rematch!

published on

This fight thing won't just end! Word on the street now is that Chris Brown and Drake have been offered $1 million each to continue their fight in the boxing ring. Imagine?

The offer was reportedly made by billionaire, Alki David through boxing promoter Damon Feldman, and it involves a $1 million grant to charity if the duo take on the challenge.

Speaking with the New York Daily News newspaper, Feldman said, 'Obviously they have a grudge. It's just three one-minute rounds. No one will get seriously hurt.' Lol, can you just imagine that?

He stated that the pay-per-view event will hold in either Las Vegas or Los Angeles and suggested Saturday, August 25, 2012, as the date.

He even stated his interest in getting Rihanna as the ring girl, saying that although he's sure she will decline the offer, he is sure she will watch the punch-fest.

The thing is, neither Drake nor Chris have declared any interest in the offer! $1million for a public humiliation, really?

On the other hand, 50cent stated during an interview with California radio station KMEL that; "I would take Chris…I guess it's cause of all the physical things I see him doing with dancing and moving. He be slipping and moving. I don't see Drake doing that. Chris be having his shirt off. He got one of them MMA fighter looks. Like he might have did karate when he was a kid. He's kicking, doing splits and stuff. This could really get interesting".

Maybach Music Group – ‘Self Made Vol. 2′ [Album Review]

published on

The Maybach Music Group has become one of the most popular record labels in hip-hop with a roster loaded with talented artists.

Rick Ross is one of the genre's best and the star of the label, which includes rappers Wale, Meek Mill along with the new additions of rapper Stalley and singer Omarion. Collectively, the core unit continues their hot streak with the label's second compilation, 'Self Made Vol. 2.'

As usual, the burly and bearded Ross shines when he makes an appearance on the 14-track album. But there's not a large gap between Ross and the rest of his label mates – everyone is on top of their game.

Wale offers his clever wordplay with quick punch lines; Meek Mill continues to show his lyrical growth; Stalley and Omarion prove they fit in well as MMG crew members. The album also features hip-hop's top acts such as T.I., Nas, Wiz Khalifa and T-Pain.

'Self-Made 2' is loaded with hard-thumping, well-crafted beats backed by bravado-filled rhyming and singing.

Some of the album's most enjoyable songs are 'This Thing of Ours', featuring Wale, Omarion, Ross and Nas; 'M.I.A' with Wale and Omarion; 'Fountain Of Youth' with Ross, Stalley and Nipsey Hussle; and 'Fluorescent ink' with Stalley, Wale and Ross.

Micheal Jackson's tiger dies of cancer!

published on

I'm sure a lot of you will ask why this is important, but there was really nothing to blog about, this popped up and I thought; "why not?"

The 13-year-old tiger died of lung cancer at the Tippi Hedren's wildlife preserve near Los Angeles on June 11. An autopsy was performed and the tiger was cremated.

Hedren stated that Thriller and brother Sabu were born in 1998 and lived with Jackson until 2006 when Jackson left Neverland. Jackson's veterinarian asked Hedren to take the cats at her Shambala Preserve in Acton. She says a $79,000 compound was built on a lake and Thriller had a great life with Sabu.

Despite Jackson's love of animals, Hedren says, he never called to check on the tigers and never sent any money to help pay for their care.

More on Pastor Chris Okotie's marital separation!

published on

I really don't know why members of Household of God feel this whole situation's normal. Na wa oh!
They have been warned not to talk about the separation in private or in public. It is apparently in the best interest of the church not to speak on the issue, but from what I hear, the details are very controversial!

Here's a press statement from the church;

"The Pastor of our Church, the Household of God, Oregun, Lagos, Rev Chris Okotie announced his separation from Stephanie his wife of four years, at the end last Sunday service.
Both parties arrived at this decision after careful review of the prevailing circumstances which pointed to the fact that it is the best option for them at this time. They also agreed not to divulge details of this incident for personal reasons.
Rev Okotie thanks concerned friends and well-wishers and asked for understanding. He also expressed the hope that their decision would be respected as no further details would be given on this issue." - Household of God spokesperson, Mr. Ladi Ayodeji

New Music: MMG Vol. 2- Maybach Music Group!

published on Tuesday, 26 June 2012

This post is for the loyal rap fans!
It's been approximately, Thirteen months since the first Maybach Music Group compilation, Self Made, Vol. 1, Rick Ross and his team of labelmates and affiliates -- Gunplay, Stalley, Wale, Meek Mill, French Montana and Omarion -- return with Vol. 2. Ricky Rozay's first go at the group album wasn't a disappointment, it just lacked hits. Frankly, the Bawse and his posse don't nail it on Self Made, Vol. 2, but it's a step in the right direction thanks to several guest features from the likes of Nas, T.I., Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar and Roscoe Dash, among others.
Lyrics, not beats take the front seat on this 14-track effort. Maybe Ross isn't trying to feed the listener a club banger or an overproduced hit. Therefore Vol. 2 becomes more an album for the rap fan to dissect than move to in the club. However, the lyrics get redundant about packing coke or how many ways Mr. "Square-Root-of-a-Kilo-Is-Me" can tell you he has more money than you. The album's saving grace is the conscious raps by MMG's own Stalley and Wale.

Davido's pride; shut with a dirty slap!

published on

Lmaoooo! Davido won't kill me!

Asa Asika, Shina Rambo and B-red should better do something fast!

Word on the street now's that Davido got slapped by the police while he was in Abuja for the Nokia Rap Battle. Going by the latest gist at our disposal, Davido might need to watch the way he talks to people.

I don't know how true the whole story is but I was told that Davido and other popular artistes were invited for the recently concluded Nokia Rap Battle show by a fast rising music producer/manager; Nosa.

After the show, Davido was apparently drunk to stupor and insisted on leaving in a friend's car instead of the one that brought him, and other top artistes and crew from the hotel. Nosa being his host had to drive behind them.

As if Davido wasn't enough trouble, from what I heard, they were stopped by some military men for the routine check especially at that time of the night. I was also told that Davido then jumped out of the car and started boasting, shouting; "don't you know me, what the fuck is wrong with you guys?…". His pride must have really vexed one of the Mopol officers as he slapped Davido real hard while he was still ranting and boasting. He was also threatened with a gun to shut up. Davido was immediately rushed back into the car by Nosa and his friend. They pleaded with the policemen stating that he's actually a popular musician.
You would then think that the story must have ended there, but it didn't. Davido still angry did not hesitate to "change it for" Nosa immediately they got back to the hotel. I was told that he went as far as telling him to shut up and not to talk when he's talking,or else he would slap him the way the Mopol treated him.

Nosa, I heard, just walked away.

If this is true though, Davido should really be careful!

Will Goldie win the Big Brother Stargame?

published on

When she was announced as Nigeria's celebrity representative in the Big Brother show, many fans entertained fear about Nigeria's chances this year, because she and her two male compatriots seemed to lack the energy, craze and controversial attitude expected of a potential BBA winner.

The fear was confirmed when barely two weeks in, Ola and Chris, who were supposed to be her support, threw in the towel and

made a voluntary exit on health grounds, leaving the game in the hands of dear Goldie Harvey. Now, forty nine days after the show kicked off, Goldie seems to have proven her detractors wrong, fighting to remain in the game after half of the house mates have been evicted for different reasons.

Presently reigning as Head of the House, Goldie stands atop other House mates, armed with an immunity power with which she saved her 'boyfriend', Prezzo from the claws of eviction.

However, what remains to be seen is whether or not her strategy and skills will see her to the ninetieth day to eventually win the coveted $300,000 cash prize.

Coming to terms with the possibility of Goldie losing out of the game may be a rather absurd and unpatriotic thought, but as it is, the 28-year-old Nigerian singer may not eventually win the show.

Perhaps my reasons and opinions may seem unguided, but there are a few instances that may prove me right, if observed with an unbiased mind.

One might think she has a better chance because of her mother-hen qualities, which have made her popular in the house, but sadly, it is yet to earn her true love and respect from her fellow house mates and even her boyfriend, Prezzo, as her name still pops up during eviction nominations. This is  normal, since it's a game, but on the other hand, it's an indication of the fact that Goldie needs more than those qualities to remain in the house.

In another light, Goldie's popularity is wholly wired around her rapper boyfriend, Prezzo, who is usually the cause of her tears, sobs, throwing up and other theatrical displays for which she has become popular.  Little wonder she replaced him with innocent Keitta, knowing fully well that she will become irrelevant and unpopular once Prezzo is out of the game. Unfortunately for her, Prezzo seems to be in everybody's bad books, owing to his boastful character.

Again, while contestants like Zainab, Keitta and Jessica can boast of massive love and support from viewers, having survived evictions, Goldie cannot, as she has never been up for eviction. This may seem like an advantage, but it isn't, in the real sense of it, as her popularity and acceptance level is yet unknown. Basically, she has remained in the house on sheer luck, which can only go as far as placing her amongst the last three but not the ultimate victory.

One other thing that may work against Goldie is the fact that three Nigerians have won the game back to back, which is why most people didn't believe Ola's excuse of health problems to seek voluntary exit, suggesting that it was an arrangement the organisers made with the duo so Nigeria wouldn't win again. Some say Goldie is only being retained to generate viewership from the Nigerian audience. If this is true, then

Goldie may be coming back home with a consolation prize of second or third place, which would have been Karen Igho's case, had she not truly proved to deserve to win.

However, with less than forty days left, and fourteen more house mates to battle, Goldie seems to be at the top of her game, especially as she has served as head of house twice now. This, however, does not count, as the race for the victory becomes tougher by the day

50cent involved in an accident!

published on

Its been a while since I've heard anything about 50 Cent. But the latest gist in town now is that he has been hospitalized after suffering neck and back injuries in an accident that happened today.

According to his website; ThisIs50.com, a red truck crashed into the back of 50 Cent's bullet proof car on the Long Island Expressway in New York City. His car was said to have almost tumbled.

His website stated that; ''Fif's bullet-proof SUV was rear-ended by a Mack truck on the Long Island Expressway after the driver lost control of the massive vehicle, almost causing 50's SUV to flip over in the process".

He and his driver have been admitted into a Queen's hospital where doctors had to run tests on his neck and back. Reports say he has been released and is 'doing fine'.

Unilag gets to keep its name; at least for now!

Yaaaay!

Unilag gets to keep its name, at least for now. The Federal High court under Justice Stephen Adah, has granted an injunction; an interim order stopping the change of name of Unilag, at least for now.

The court has however warned the differing parties to harmonise their case under one suit and adjourned the case till July 4. The defendants named are; UNILAG, the UNILAG Governing Council, the UNILAG Senate, the Attorney-General of the Federation and the National Assembly, Channels TV reports.

The basically lies on the idea that the motion should have been brought before the National Assembly before being announced on Democracy day.

President Jonathan however stated that he had carried out the change by the letter of the law and students were too young to understand the importance of Moshood Abiola in Nigeria's historical context. Imagine?

"I want to win a grammy"- Dbanj

published on

Bouncing towards me on his alligator-skin trainers, Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo opts for a one-armed hip-hop hug when at last we meet. Not only does he look the part – the shoes are by designer Philipp Plein, his T-shirt's Calvin Klein and around his neck hangs a dazzling chain created by Jacob 'The Jeweller' Arabo, purveyor of 'bling blings' to the hip-hop elite – but he smells it, too: an almost suffocating cloud of lavender scent hangs in the air.

D'banj, as he shortens his name, is the biggest name in entertainment in Nigeria and has the potential to become the first-ever artist from Africa to compete on equal terms with any acts in the western pop firmament. It's the brash, moneyed, sexy version of the continent – home to seven of the 10 fastest-growing economies in the world – that he represents. Today he is in the UK promoting his Top 10 hit Oliver Twist, a ribald account of the famous women he fancies, from Nicki Minaj and Rihanna to the Ghanaian actress Nadia Buhari. Recently he heard it being used as the background music to a party in EastEnders – precisely the sort of mainstream attention that he wants to receive.

It quickly becomes apparent that the 32-year-old, acclaimed by his peers back home in Lagos for his relentless drive, is difficult to stop once he's on a roll. 'I'm so excited – not just for me, but for the whole of Africa', he says. 'Two years ago I said it's time for me to take my music global because I've won all the awards back home.' With his mentor, the producer Don Jazzy, he created the biggest record label in Nigeria, but 'now I want to win a Brit award, a Grammy'.

'Yes, we have MTV, yes, we sell millions of records and have endorsement deals, but we've never felt as if we're part of the same music industry as the rest of the world – the Kanye Wests, the Adeles and Tinie Tempahs,' he continues. 'I see what I'm doing now as the bridge that we've been looking for from Africa to the mainstream world. I want others to see the potential in my country, other than our oil and natural resources. That's what's making me move. I feel like a new artist.'

The first time I laid eyes on D'banj it was in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, in late 2008, when he waltzed away with three accolades including Artist of the Year at the first-ever MTV Africa Awards. Just before he turns up for our encounter in London, the ebullient Bankulli, his manager, shows me footage on YouTube of him on the promo trail in the UK, visiting a school in Plumstead demonstrating how to do the 'Oliver Twist' dance to a background of shrill screams from the pupils. It's not just hard to think of another African artist who'd engender such a reaction at a south London secondary school, it's tricky to think of that many homegrown pop stars who could incite quite as much hysteria. But over the past three or four years, there's been a growing appetite for what are styled 'Afro beats' among that key pop demographic in this country.

Listen to DJ Abrantee's show on Choice FM on Saturday nights or DJ Edu on Radio 1 Extra with his Destination Africa programme on Sundays and you'll hear the likes of Sarkodie and Efya (from Ghana) or Psquare, Wizkid and – especially – D'banj (all from Nigeria). Rickie Davies runs a website promoting Afro beats in the UK, and she describes 'a real shift in perceptions among audiences in the UK. No one's talking about this as if it's 'world music',' she says, 'or alien to the culture here.' Abrantee told me recently of the deeper impact of this burgeoning scene. 'When I was growing up in London', he said, 'you never let on that your family came from Africa – it was too embarrassing. Everyone pretended they came from the Caribbean. But suddenly black kids from Ghana or Nigeria are saying it's cool to come from there.'

'It's very humbling, my success here,' D'banj says. 'Coming from Africa – Nigeria – doing music for a decade there… it's a different world.'

Ten days earlier, I'd flown to Nigeria to meet D'banj, and ended up on a whistle-stop tour of the Lagos nightlife scene with one of his younger peers. Ice Prince arrives at the Oriental Hotel with an entourage that includes his own bodyguard, a figure so strapping that he'd be slightly intimidating even without the Soviet assault rifle. As he explains, over the culinary challenge that is a bowl of egusi soup in a fast-food joint in the upmarket district of Lekki, he's simply there to intimidate the sort of crazy fans that any fledgling pop star will encounter.

'I can't normally eat in a place like this', Ice Prince explains. 'I just get too much attention'. Instead he has a cook at home, and when he drives around the city in his white Land Rover, his assistant will pull bundles of naira banknotes out of a black bin liner to shower on the crowds who surround him – both a bid to distract them and, as it's explained to me: 'It's expected of you here. If you don't, people will start saying God thinks badly of you'.

In a nutshell, the 25-year old Panshak Zamani, who grew up in the northern city of Jos, listening to the likes of South African reggae star Lucky Dube and his pop counterpart Brenda Fassie – he now counts Jay-Z as his favourite artist – is living the life that he describes in his hit 'Superstar'. 'Better cars, better clothes on me/Better parties, better houses and better girls on me…' runs the chorus. 'See I can take you there/Champagne everywhere/That's the life we live.'

The story of the Nigerian pop scene as it exists today – with its videos showing fast cars and faster women – doesn't date back much further than a decade and reflects the booming economy in the country. GDP has more than doubled since 2005 and the growing middle class has an appetite for the affluent lifestyle that figures such as Ice Prince or D'banj embody. The latter tells me that 'it used just to be footballers who got endorsement deals, but now entertainment is attracting a lot of media and investors, too.'

Ice Prince is contemplating offers from a drinks company and a telecoms outfit at the moment. Acts such as his can earn up to £20,000 for a live show – and without that income, rampant piracy would mean the music industry in the country would barely exist. Instead, in the absence of global players such as Sony and Universal, four or five labels – including Ice Prince's Chocolate City, Storm Records, Kennis Music and EME Music, and D'banj and Don Jazzy's Mo'Hits – have competed for success.

'There's been mad growth in the music industry here,' Ice Prince says, while acknowledging the problems with publishing and the collection of royalties. Nonetheless: 'If you go to a club or a party in Lagos, 80% of the music that you'll hear is Nigerian, which never used to be the case.'

Factor in the advent of MTV and other cable channels across Africa, – including Channel O, BET (Black Entertainment Television) and the French network Trace – plus the new power of Twitter and social media, and little wonder that when an artist such as Ice Prince plays a show in Malawi, he's greeted by crowds numbering in their thousands. He shows me footage of a recent gig on his Mac PowerBook. 'This is new. They might not understand our patois, but the fans there know us from TV, and we're famous right across the continent.'

Ice Prince has a gig to play in Abuja this evening, so he leaves me in the care of the most celebrated hip-hop star in the country, M.I, meaning Mr Incredible (or Jude Abaga, as he was christened). His posse – that's now me, incongruously; the producer Kid Konnect and another rapper, the brilliant Loose Kaynon – end up swigging Hennessy at a party called SLU…shh in a mansion in Lekki where other acts including Davido and Tiwa Savage freestyle on the mic by the swimming pool. Come 3am the next day, we're in Number 10, the nightclub on Victoria Island owned by Jay-Jay Okocha – the most famous Nigerian footballer of all time (later MI even introduces this drunken foreigner to him).

The following afternoon there's a gig at the Teslim Balogun stadium: Coca-Cola is sponsoring a youth football tournament and paying for the accompanying entertainment. This means appearances between games from Davido, Brymo and then M.I himself. He sprints around the pitch, mic in hands, rapping along to the bellowing PA system, stopping only to goad members of the crowd who aren't fellow Arsenal fans, before sprinting to his waiting car and a hairy ride out of the stadium before the vehicle is mobbed.

From there I head to the airport, regretting only that the figure I'd travelled to Lagos to see never actually materialised: D'banj himself. One of his representatives did arrive at the hotel with a bottle of Moët & Chandon and a Koko mobile – from his own branded mobile-phone line, launched last year – as gifts for me. But with it came the message that he'd preferred instead to go to the Cannes film festival with Kanye West – in order to help promote Kanye's 30-minute movie Cruel Summer, shot in Qatar and featuring several artists signed to his G.O.O.D Music label, among whom D'banj can now count himself.

Born in Zaria in northern Nigeria to a military officer and a businesswoman, D'banj grew up just north of Lagos, becoming interested in music following the death of his 17-year-old brother Femi in an air crash in 1994. 'I arranged all his possessions on his bed after they were brought home and just picked up his harmonica. I'd play it to remember him.' Later, at university, he realised what his new skills with the instrument could bring him. 'I'd go to the female hostel after lectures, and even if there was no electricity I could play there.' He remembers learning Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On' after Titanic came out – 'and that got me a lot of girls!'

Plans to continue his studies as a mechanical engineer in London were derailed when he arrived in the UK in 2001 and met Don Jazzy. The 18-year-old – born Michael Collins Ajereh – had also come from Lagos and was trying to make it as a songwriter and producer, working with acts such as Big Brovaz (career highlight: the song they contributed to the soundtrack of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed). D'banj started hanging around the studio, making ends meet with work as a security guard. 'It was OK, because I did nights,' he says, 'so I could listen to music on my headphones.'

Don Jazzy told D'banj he thought he was a star in the making and, sensing that the music scene in Nigeria was 'blossoming', the pair returned to Lagos in 2004. That same year came the single 'Tongolo', the video paid for by D'banj's mum – 'Thank you, Mummy!' – who'd hitherto been suspicious of his new-found calling, and then his first album, his first endorsement (with an energy drink called Power Fist) and 'the rest is history'.

In fact, as Don Jazzy tells it, there was a definite plan with each landmark single. He'd clocked the success of Psquare across Africa, so with the next D'banj record, 'Fall in Love', he emulated their sound. With 'Mr Endowed', he went for 'fist-pumping dance music' – a risk at home in Nigeria, but it paid off in spades, and through the help of a mutual friend (jeweller Chris Aire), Snoop Dogg was brought in on a remix of the track. The impossibly infectious 'Oliver Twist' was a calculated attempt to crack the market in the UK. 'I thought we could do with a sort of funky house sound. I thought: 'It's not like the music is that different from the music we listen to here.''

Listen to 'Oliver Twist', or Ice Prince's 'Superstar', or P-Square's 'Chop My Money' – which I heard blaring on Beat FM all weekend in Lagos, alongside the occasional likes of Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' – and the production isn't so dissimilar from any western pop hit. But as Ice Prince told me, there's definitely an indigenous feel, too: 'There's a lot of American and UK influence, but the present Nigerian sound is really influenced by highlife and juju music. We made it a bit funky, a bit more modern.'

Prior to the likes of 2face Idibia and the brothers in Psquare and D'banj, the biggest name in Nigerian music remained the late Fela Kuti, and Don Jazzy cites the influence of his 'Afro beat' sound, too. It's a source of some irritation that what he calls his 'Afro pop' is termed 'Afro beats' in the UK, when 'what we do now sounds totally different'.

With D'banj, Jazzy built Mo'Hits records, also signing the likes of Wande Coal. But earlier this year, the pair split, following D'banj's decision to sign to Kanye West's label and relocate on a more or less permanent basis to the UK and US.

In D'banj's telling of it, he and his entourage were in the first-class lounge at Dubai airport in November 2010 after playing a gig when a stewardess approached with a name card that said 'Mr Kanye West'. 'I was looking fly – if you know anything about D'banj, you know I'm always looking on point. I say: 'Dress how yon: 'That means Kanye West is coming, let's get rolling… Eyes open!' Then we saw him, checking in, wearing a hoodie. I said: 'If I get five minutes, I will take it. I'm an African man! I will not waste it!' And he came and five minutes became 30 minutes and he held my plane for me, because I would have missed it. In fact the first thing he said was: 'I like your dress sense…'' The story of D'banj's split with Don Jazzy has dominated the Nigerian entertainment press all year. The week after I leave Lagos there are even (false) rumours that D'banj has been shot by three gunmen near Kanye's Atlanta residence, then rushed to the city's St Joseph's hospital and is dying from his wounds. There doesn't seem to be much substance to the idea of hostilities, although Don Jazzy did cut a slightly forlorn figure when I met him in his half-built mansion in a gated compound on the outskirts of Lekki. 'Every day I'd wake up, I'd be scared to look at the newspaper or go to the internet to see what people are saying now,' he said. 'It's been blown out of all proportion.'

While he also has a deal with GOOD Music as a producer, Jazzy intends to concentrate on his new venture, MAVIN records, and those acts still signed to him, including Dr SID, Tiwa Savage and Wande Coal. He says now of D'banj: 'he's a very ambitious person and he works hard: I give it to him. I'm glad that we've been able to get to the point where he can go to the UK and the US and stand as a man. I don't need to be carrying him – there's other people who need help here now.'

When D'banj and I do meet, he's mollifying. 'It's like we were married – a very successful marriage,' he says, 'and we just had a divorce.' There are also those voices, he knows, who think that now he's tasted success in the UK, he'll turn his back on Nigeria, but he's adamant. 'I can't wait for the world to see what we have in Africa. I tell Kanye and everyone, I've got rappers back home who can really rap. MI is going to murder everybody! I had a vision that I want to be global,' he says, 'but I don't want to change my Nigerian identity, I don't want to change my style.'

In person, he radiates such easy-going star quality that it's impossible to begrudge him anything, or to think that he won't help pave the way for others. (In fact, just days after we speak, Ice Prince joins him on the bill for the BBC's Hackney Weekend festival).

The final question I put to him – and it's the sort of question that a lot of his peers in the UK and US would shirk – is whether his Afro beats hold a mirror up to society in the same way that Fela Kuti's did. D'banj argues that today's stars are simply reaping the rewards of battles Fela won, that 'things are better – there's not just freedom of speech. For instance, we've got social media.'

At the last Nigerian elections, D'banj was courted by presidential candidate Goodluck Jonathan and filmed a video in support that was subsequently credited with ensuring his success. Any flak that the singer attracted as a result deters him little – even if the raging fuel-subsidy issues in the country have overtaken the promise in his clip on YouTube of 'no shortage of fuel and kerosene'. Perhaps it's a reminder that on any road to progress there are always setbacks. '

K-Solo's wife speak on alleged domestic violence and stealing

published on

Full details from the wife of popular producer K-Solo on alleged charges on domestic violence and stealing...
Top music producer K-Solo married Kikelomo Akinkunmi in November 2011. By May 2012, the marriage was over. The wife told City People in an exclusive interview that the marriage ended because K-Solo was in it for money and also because he assaulted her so much she lost the pregnancy she was carrying when they got married,  Here are the full details gotten from The wife

How it all began…

K-Solo and I met on Facebook in April 2011 and continued our friendship on Blackberry. We eventually met face to face at a show in Eko Hotel in Lagos. I am not really based in Lagos. I am always in Warri, Port Harcourt, South Africa or Cameroon. I am always traveling because of my business. But because of K-Solo I started coming to Lagos frequently after we started dating.

By August of 2011 we started having issues. He was actually scamming one girl. One Leilani Ifeoma in Houston, Texas. Apparently they have not met physically, they met on the internet and she was also into entertainment so K-Solo started scamming her, collected $ 1,000 from her and promising her marriage. The day I got to know, I was in his house He left his phone and stepped out, so I picked the call and I told her I am K-Solo's wife  and the lady said it wasn't possible because they were planning to get married. When I asked him about her, he said please don't mind her, and later said he was sorry. But when I continued to demand for answers, he started beating me despite the fact that I was pregnant. He carried a lamp and threw at me.

Before then, when I met him, he told me he wanted to shoot a video for his song 'Ni Igboro; and said he didn't have money for it. I gave him N515, 000 for the video shoot which he didn't complete the payment to the Video director, and how I knew? I was in a hotel in Abuja and the video director came to me demanding for his balance payment saying k-solo didn't pay him the complete amount, so I begged him and also gave him 30,000 to make the remaining payment when i get to Lagos,  I gave him another N100, 000 some weeks before the video shoot. All through this I didn't know he had a girlfriend that he had been living with for seven years. Each time I go to the studio, I see her there with a K-Solo tattoo on her arm. When I asked him who she was, he said she was his sister's daughter. I later found out that when I gave him the money for the video shoot, he used half of it to celebrate a birthday for Bimbo.

A few weeks later, the lady in the US, Ify, called his phone and I picked it up. When I told him I'd picked his call, he got angry and went outside the house to go talk with the lady. He was begging the girl and lying that I was his sister. He even asked her if she was ready to sponsor their wedding. After listening in on the conservation, I told him then and there that the relationship was over, that I wanted my N515, 000 back. Not just that, I'd spend a lot of money on him. He started begging and crying. A few days later, I travelled to South Africa.

While in South Africa, he kept calling and begging and I eventually forgive him because I was pregnant and he convinced me he was a changed man. He actually told me he had gone for deliverance. That was when we decided to get married. The only money K-Solo spent on the wedding was N15, 000 for wedding invites. I took care of everything. The cloth K-Solo was wearing, my own, his pilot suits, clothes, shoes, bag his mum wore, the feeding and drinks the hall renting I did everything. I spend over N3.5 million.

On the night of the wedding, K-Solo woke me up around 3am and said now that he's my husband, when am I going to make him a signatory to my company's account, and when am I going to change all my property to his name. I got scared and first thing in the morning I called my brother and told him what happened. He advised me to move all my documents, cheque books out of the house, which I did. Whenever I asked for money for feeding or upkeep, he would shout at me and say 'What's the meaning of that? Don't you have more money than me? What did I marry you for?

K-Solo started beating me up after the wedding and I lost the baby I was carrying when we got married on the 26th of November.

The marriage finally crashed in February 2012 when he called me and told me that Timaya just bought a Nigerian used Range Rover sport, that he wants me to buy him a brand new Range Rover worth 7.5 million and also put N10million in his account. I told him that even if I had the money, I won't do it because I expect him to talk about how to invest money in productive business and not buying Range Rover. Moreover, I gave K-Solo N2million to pay for house rent for our 4-bedroom home at Ogba Medium estate, but he only gave the agent N1million and squandered the remaining money to buy Hublot wrist watches, Blackberry phones expensive shoes and designer wears. When I pointed this out to him, he told me that he will make the marriage miserable for me. On February 14th, after a misunderstanding, K-Solo packed a few of his things and moved to his mother's house. I left our home too but was advised to go back since our marriage was still young. Because I wanted to make it work, I took my brother to K-Solo's mother's house to apologize to him and his mum. He later returned home. But immediately he returned, he asked me if I was ready to buy him the Range Rover and I told him it wasn't going to happen.

So in March we went to Shoprite and he wanted me to buy two wine glasses that cost N2, 500 each. I suggested that we should open our wedding gifts that there definitely will be wine glasses somewhere, and he just slapped me right there in Shoprite, and as he was coming close to me I ran into the car park, he ran after me, removed his belt and started beating me. People started taking pictures of us and some guys tried to drag him away, by then, my right eye started bleeding. While they were trying to calm him down, he ran away from them and went to carry a stone and threw it at me, and I just passed out. I woke up in the hospital and what he told my family was that I fell. he started begging me and crying that it was the devil's work.

After that beating, I stopped doing everything I used to do financially in our home and he became very frustrated and aggressive. But the marriage finally packed on a particular night I came back home late from going to buy fruits for the house. Immediately I entered the house, he got up and started shouting at me. He started coming close, and I tried to leave the room, but he dragged me back, locked the door and threw the key in the drawer. He started beating me, slapping me and broke a coke bottle on my forehead. I stood up and ran to the bathroom, he followed me, took the mopping stick, broke it and started hitting my stomach that the pregnancy must come out. By then I was pregnant again. I was bleeding on my forehead, and he picked up the washing machine in the bathroom and threw it at me. I was just there bleeding and lifeless, so finally some of his boys were able to break the door and they started holding him back. The guys tried to stop the bleeding on my forehead but couldn't stop the one underneath. They tried to take me to the hospital but K-Solo prevented them. So I was bleeding from 11pm to 7am the following morning, which was when they finally took me to the hospital. By the time I returned from the hospital, he had moved his things from the house. That was when I discovered that my trinkets box with gold over N2.5million was missing and this was not the first time he's stealing from me. I wrote a petition to the commissioner of police and on May 29th, the police went to pick him up.  And he was later bailed by his family members, according to a close source the police advised him to go and settle the issue with the family members and apologize to kikelomo's parents and he said "over his dead body would he go and beg her parents" instead he sent a text message to the parents apologizing. Here it is…

"Good Evening Daddy & Mummy, with remorse in my heart I want to use this medium to apologize for beating up your Daughter My Wife, this happened as a result of serious frustration that won't happen again. Am prostrating and saying a very a Big sorry for my action, such will never happen again. Please forgive me, have also made several moves to apologize to her, Thank you Mummy and Daddy. Solomon Oyeniyi"

Even when they were at the police station the IC inspector in charge asked if he truly beat his wife and requesting for a range rover sport from her and he accepted that he did all that and other charges against him ,  K-solo and wife are still legally married but living separately for the past 2 months
According to the teamXclusive correspondent who was present at the Police station on Tuesday 19th June 2012 which was the appointed date set by the police force to interview both parties and try to solve the issue and it was also the deadline for K-solo to show up at the station for the case to be settled by the law.
He Confirmed that the police is aware of the case and is taking due actions to solve the problem, In the morning that same day K-solo called his wife begging her she shouldn't carry out the Police case  on knowing on her Progress with the police in solving the problem and hearing of the scheduled meeting with the police and didn't deny on phone that he beat her up,  at the appointed time given by the police only his wife was present at the station, the police called him and he said he was in Abuja meanwhile one of his boys present at the station confirmed that he was in his studio in Lagos ( you see he lied to the press, now also to the police ) so the scheduled meeting was cancelled due to his absence , meanwhile Kikelomo still adamant that he should be charged to court for Domestic Violence and stealing, and for him to return her Gold box and jewelries worth 2.4 milion and for him to sign an undertaken that he will never touch me again and threaten to kill me.  Kikelomo Akinkunmi  K-solo wife still showing signs of pregnancy which we believe should be 5months due to her protruding belly and also scars of healed injuries were still visible. Meanwhile K-solo used the name of her company EMMAX GLOBAL VENTURES as management of his new album launch without her consent, Even One of Ksolo boys confirmed that he is aware of the whole incidence and all Kike told the Police and the general public was true, also saying that K-solo had a wife before and did almost the same thing to her and he scams a lot of people in the name of marriage and Promoting or producing their tracks and also a huge Debtor who has received a lot of death threats from the people he is owing.
And was also suspended from the church Revival assemblies ministry Ogba Ikeja by the pastor because of this incident, There is a lot of witnesses and proof that Solomon Oyeniyi a.k.a   K-SOLO assaulted and beat his wife Kikelomo Akinkunmi and stole her Gold Jewelries ranging from pictures, Voice recordings of calls made Accepting that he beat up his wife and living witnesses, but still K-SOLO still denies to the general public that he can't even hurt a fly

Here is what he has to say;
Press statement from K-Solo's reps
Over the past three days, I have been inundated with phone calls, text messages and emails from fans, friends, family members and well wishers from all over Nigeria and abroad over allegations of wife battery, assault and thievery by my wife, Mrs. Kikelomo Oyeniyi, as contained in an interview she granted City People Magazine.
I make bold to say that as much as no union is without its own trials and tribulations, I have never laid hands on my wife and will never because have got sisters and a mother.

I am a hardworking young man that has been in the music industry for over a decade and do not need any woman's wealth to live. This is our own trying time and we would surmount it one way or the other.

Mistakes have been made and they would be redressed, God willing. Let no man be the judge of another man's deeds or misdeeds, let God and law take their courses. I hereby implore everybody to please appreciate and understand that this is a very difficult moment for me and my immediate family and would not wish to comment on this issue any further.

And it was also reported that he denied ever having a wife on a recent interview with a Eko fm saying
That he is still single and anybody bearing Mrs. Oyeniyi is fake and he never got any body pregnant.
The police vowed to put an end to all this and bring the defaulter to justice saying nobody is above the law
