The celebrant had just cut his cake when younger brother Seun Kuti brought to the stage a huge bottle of champagne; as he was about to drink from it, Femi grabbed it and had a go at it…twice!
Femi Kuti and his ex-wife Funke Kuti were reunited last night, at the party as Funke was deeply involved in the well-put-together party, working with others to make sure everything went according to plans.
Later, she took time to join the three-time Grammy Awards nominated celebrant and their son Made who thrilled crowd with a short piano session.
The event was attended by quite a number of people from the Nigerian entertainment industry including Kenny Ogungbe, Tee-Mac, Laolu Akins, Orits Wiliki, Fatai Rolling Dollar, Jeffery Daniels, Sadi Daba, Weird MC and many others. Understandably, government functionaries were conspicuously missing.

It's father's day today and Femi Kuti's first son Madé had stored a brilliant performance as an early gift for his father Femi Kuti who was celebrating his 50th birthday at the New Afrika Shrine on Saturday, June 16, 2012.
Madé who is currently studying Music in the UK stunned and thrilled guests who watched as he dazzled playing classical numbers from Mozart on the grand piano specially mounted on the stage for him.
Femi who couldn't stop smiling was later joined by Madé's mother Funke who looked very emotional as her son played on.
Pop icon 2face Idibia was one of the many entertainers present at the party. The singer had fun mingling with guests for the few hours he spent at the New Afrika Shrine.
2face met up with Femi who was quite pleased to see him. Although he didn't perform, '2 baba' still grabbed to microphone during the cake cutting ceremony to render Evi Edna Ogoli's evergreen classic number 'Happy Birthday'.
