50 things every girl in her 20s needs to stop doing!

published on Monday, 30 September 2013

‎A lot of girls in our age group don't know where their lived are heading. They just live like there is no tomorrow. I read this on Ynaija and thought to share it with you guys. Enjoy!

‎"Our 20s are messy. We're trying to carve a meaningful path, feel significant in our daily lives and navigate the ever-changing social landscape. Stability feels like a luxury when we're rapidly growing up and altering our courses.

And yet, we're constantly reminded that these are our 20s! The time of our lives! We should be enjoying this random chain of events, strapping ourselves in and riding the roller coaster.

But what would make the trip easier? Breaking these habits that preclude us from becoming the people we want to be. Here's the ultimate list of things every 20-something woman needs to stop doing…

1. Complaining that there are no available, good men.

2. Lamenting about how much you ate and listing all the food items (…and then eating a pizza for dinner).

3. Talking smack about people you like and hang out with.

4. Drunk texting. Seriously, that never ends well.

5. Neglecting your personal health and wellness. It's important to take care of yourself.

6. Tanning. No excuses.

7. Having unprotected sex.

8. Hating your body and worrying about your weight.

9. Taking nude photos of yourself and thinking they're safe with your boyfriend.

10. Pretending to be friends with people you no longer care about. You're not doing anyone a favor.

11. Covering yourself in makeup.

12. Skipping the gym and then whining about not going.

13. Validating yourself by putting others down.

14. Drinking cheap liquor. Do your hangover a favor and upgrade.

15. Beating yourself up – we're all young and learning.

16. Taking gratuitous selfies. Hate to break it to you, but no one cares.

17. Bi_ching that all men are the same. They aren't, you know this, and it's a waste of energy.

18. Stalking your ex on social media. Doesn't matter what you find, it's not going to comfort you.

19. Being afraid to take a chance on your career. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

20. Buying clothes at Forever21 because they are affordable…and then never wearing them.

21. Being mean to your parents. Give them a break, they've given you thousands.

22. Texting someone back after they've called you. It's rude.

23. Getting upset over not having a boyfriend. He won't want you if you're frowning all the time.

24. Overspending money you don't have. Live within your means and you'll never feel stressed about finances.

25. Feeling intimidated by people you don't know. Chances are they're actually nice and friendly.

26. Drunk eating…(yeah, right).

27. Comparing yourself to others. You'll never win.

28. Losing your cellphone — drunkenly or otherwise.

29. Purchasing jeans a size smaller in hopes of finally losing enough weight to fit into them.

30. Immediately responding with "Ew."

31. Backing out of plans.

32. Trying too hard to get married.

33. Playing with your hair.

34. Shying away from opportunity because you're too lazy to push yourself.

35. Thinking the guy has to initiate the plans.

36. Taking yourself too seriously. You're reading Elite Daily for Pete's sake!

37. Thinking you're better than the nerdy guy at the bar trying to buy you a drink. By age 29, you'll be begging these guys to take you out.

38. Planning to get "catch-up" drinks with your ex. There's no such thing as platonic when he's been inside you.

39. Drinking too much and crying at the bar. Ain't nobody got time for that.

40. Buying too high heels and ruining your night wearing them.

41. Being too quick to judge someone outside of your social circle.

42. Wearing sweatpants outside of the house. If you look good, you'll feel good.

43. Complicating your love life.

44. Becoming complacent with your routine.

45. Posting your relationship status, your baby's pictures or about losing your first tooth on Facebook.

46. Texting while driving or while at the table.

47. Starving yourself.

48. Writing ignorant sh*t or stupid, hurtful comments online.

49. Committing a wrong-doing and not owning up to it.

50. Settling for less than your best.

How I escaped Nairobi attack- Wole Soyinka

published on

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said that the late Ghanaian diplomat and poet, Kofi Awoonor and himself could have been together at the Storymoja/Hay Literature Festival held in Nairobi, Kenya.

He said he was invited to the same festival but could not attend.

Awoonor was killed by terrorists last Saturday at the Westgate Shopping Mall shooting in Nairobi.

Soyinka said two commitments: a public conversation with a very brave individual, Karima Bennoune, an Algerian national, whose trenchant publication – Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here, and the annual conference of international investigators in Tunis, were responsible for his inability to attend the festival.

He said: "My absence was particularly regrettable, because I had planned to make up for my failure to turn up for the immediate prior edition. Participant or absentee however, this is one edition we shall not soon forget. It was at least two days after the listing of Kofi Awoonor among the victims that I even recollected the fact that the Festival was ongoing at that very time.

"With that realisation came another: that Kofi and I could have been splitting a bottle at that same watering hole in between events and at the end of each day. My feelings, I wish to state clearly, did not undergo any changes. The emotions of rage, hate and contempt remained on the same qualitative and quantitative levels," he added.

Soyinka spoke in Lagos yesterday during a memorial reading session tagged Humanity and Against and held in honour of the late Ghanaian poet.

He described the late Awoonor as a passionate African who gave primacy of place to values derived from his Ewe heritage. "That, in turn, means that he was thoroughly imbued with the spirit of ecumenism towards other systems of belief and cultural usages – this being the scriptural ethos that permeates belief practices of most of this continent. We mourn our colleague and brother, but first, we denounce his killers, the virulent sub-species of humanity who bathe their hands in innocent blood," he added.

Renowned poet, Prof JP Clark explained why Soyinka and himself were not at the funeral of the late Chinua Achebe at Ogidi, Anambra State, blaming it on politicians that hijacked the funeral. He noted that Prof Soyinka and himself did not sit and plot action on whether or not to attend Achebe's funeral in Ogidi.

"Politicians hijacked the Achebe's funeral. I said to myself, if there is life after death, Achebe would be laughing at the politicians. So, writers could not have found a space in Achebe's funeral. From the President to the Governors, they hijacked it," he noted.

Clark said critics might be wondering why a memorial is being held in honour of Awoonor in Lagos unlike when Chinua Achebe died.

President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Prof Remi Raji, who read from his collection of poems, The Fire Next Time, said of the late Ghanaian poet: "African literature has indeed lost an influential voice. The name, Kofi Awoonor, was very present in our minds as young students. Though I never met him in person, his writings have been influential. The ANA has sent a condolence letter to the Ghana authority. Today's memorial is very instructive. His death is a reflection of the urban barbarisms in the globe today."

Other scholars who read excerpts at the memorial were Prof Kole Omotoso, Prof Femi Osofisan, Dr. Wale Okediran and Lola Shoneyin.

BBA's Prezzo wanted by Kenyan police for assaulting a military officer!

published on

Here's what I read on Bella Naija;

‎"Big Brother Africa StarGame star‎ Prezzo is reportedly wanted by Kenyan police officers.

According to Kenya's Standard Digital, the former reality TV star who was romantically linked to late Nigerian pop star Goldie, is on the run after he engaged in a gun battle outside a club in the Westlands area, Nairobi, Kenya.

The media agency stated that Prezzo (Jackson Makini) is to report to Parklands Police Station for questioning for assaulting a Swiss Military Officer in the head with a rifle butt and handgun holster on the early hours of Saturday 21st September 2013.

The musician and the Swiss officer allegedly engaged in a heated argument over a parking slot near a club at about 3 AM.

Vitalis Otieno, Gigiri Division Police head in Nairobi, said the musician obstructed the military officer from Switzerland, which caused the argument.

Vitalis told press that "When the military officer came back ready to go, an argument broke out over the parking slot which degenerated to an assault using a gun. We want him to report at Parklands."

The Swiss officer who was going to Ethiopia on that Saturday morning, canceled his flight. Vitalis Otieno said he was treated and has been discharged from an hospital.

Officers reportedly visited his home, but he wasn't there.‎"

Why I Will Never Marry – Oprah Winfrey

published on

Talk show host, and one of the world's most influential women, Oprah Winfrey has revealed why she will never, ever marry her longtime partner Stedman – despite friend, Tina Turner demanding she walk down the aisle.

But the talk show queen says she has come to the conclusion that such a union is just not for her.

When asked if she would leave earth as a "never-married" woman, Oprah made her feelings very clear.

"Yes," she told Access Hollywood. "Yeah, I think that's my final answer."

Tina exchanged vows with German music producer Erwin Bach at Lake Zurich, Switzerland. And the romantic affair made Oprah wonder if she and partner Stedman Graham should tie the knot.

"I think that it's interesting that you would ask it because I thought about it again at Tina Turner's wedding," Oprah revealed.

"Because Tina was like, 'Oprah, you need to do this. You need to do it.' I was just thinking, 'Well, OK, would things really be different?' And no, I don't think so."

Oprah admits if she and Stedman had got married, they probably wouldn't have lasted.

According to Oprah, her relationship with Stedman is so unusual it wouldn't have fit within the confines of such a union.

"If you ever interviewed him, he would tell you that had we married, we would not be together today," Oprah said of Stedman. "Because he's a traditional man and this is a very untraditional relationship."

Oprah goes on to explain that she couldn't be a wife because the word holds responsibilities she doesn't feel capable of handling.

"I think it's acceptable as a relationship, but if I had the title 'wife,' I think there would be other expectations for what a wife is and what a wife does. First of all, you've got to come home sometimes," Oprah laughed.

May his soul Rest in Peace! Amen!

Rihanna has had enough of the bad girl attitude?

So I read on Perez Hilton that after so many years of rocking hard, Rihanna has had enough.

In a recently televised interview with British personality, Alan Carr, Rihanna said;

"Recently I've become a square. I hate partying. I don't know if it's my heels – I don't like standing up in my heels for hours. I don't know if it's that, but I've been so bored of it…. I am such a bootleg rock star, I do nothing, literally. I'm embarrassed to say that actually. That's so disgusting. That's f****** pathetic."

"I tell you, I'm a bit of a square recently. Don't feel bad for me, I'm good."

Apparrently, she also said
she hasn't had much sex lately either!

Why boys cheat!

published on

INVESTIGATION..As a jobless fellow, I'd like to write a report on why boys cheat. I have carried out several investigations both preliminary and secondary as to decipher this age long problem. Interviews have been conducted, questionnaires distributed and in depth searches have been made.

Here are some of my findings: it is has been argued that boys cheat because they are BOYS and as such have not matured to that very crucial phase of manhood where they become men and realise the dangers and immaturities of hurting a loved one.
Furthermore, research has shed light on the fact that a lot of boys like to follow the trend. It is a common misconception and a preposterous belief that a boy who is not sexually active is not a 'man'. This otherwise erroneous belief is also responsible for boys who want to 'feel among' and be able to boast of their sexual prowess.
In addition, the world today has become a global village. The noms and values of countries are increasingly going down the drain. The advanced technological age we find ourselves is in no minute measure adding to why boys can't keep their male organs where they belong. With the alarming number of pornographic websites and obscene videos that go around the world, its a little wonder why boys are horny all the time.
This is not to push the blame to the boys alone. In the victorian era where pure ladies where bred and brought up, there was order as against what is obtainable today. In that era boys pursued girls and there were always chaperons. In this time, with all the advancements, things are now the other way round. Girls now love to pursue and seduce boys and a boy has little choice when found in such a position.
Several other factors can be attributed to this topic but I'd like to stop here, in order not to make this report a lengthy one

Conclusion: A lot of boys see it as the norm to cheat. It is generally accepted in the society, but it is very wrong. There is no point going into a commitment with the Intention of cheating. It is hurtful and wrong.

Remedies: I recommend that boys grow up to be men before they go into relationships, and that a lot of discussion on this subject should be adequately addressed by both partner. I further recommend that pornography should not become a habit and that girls should be ladies and should henceforth stop being aggressive towards the opposite sex.

Sex is overrated and should not be as important as oxygen.

Rihanna & Teyana Taylor fight on Twitter!

published on Wednesday, 25 September 2013

‎Immature right?

I don't know why I'm even bothering to blog about this but it seems like everybody considers it news.

Here's the story.‎ Rihanna apparently was mocking Teyana on Instagram. ‎‎ Teyana posted a video of her singing; Anita Baker's "sweet love" "Caught up in the Rapture ". Then Rihanna posted a video of her male hairstylist performing a parody of Teyana's singing. He was even wearing a curly wig, snapback, and sneakers, just like Teyana. This singular act prompted Teyana to attack Rihanna on Twitter, tweeting ;

"Don't play wit me @rihanna fuck all this industry shit, YOU & I know each other VERY well. Throwing subs 4 wat? u got my #, don't show off,"

Rihanna fans took Rihanna's side but Teyana tweeted; "y'all could bully everybody else & get away wit that shit but that shit ain't gone work ova here. so y'all could miss me with that NAVY shit,"

"i sing caught in the rapture on IG then she posts her boy singing the same song, the same part, with curly hair and a snap back??? #PETTY. … petty is petty and shade is shade, bitch knew what the fuck she was doing.‎"

Rihanna then tweeted; "I REFUSE to help your career…you will NOT get an @ from me! Not til you pay me! #nomorefreepromo #iRefuse."

Rihanna 's BFF Melissa Forde also got in on the action, tweeting ; "@TEYANATAYLOR #HOSHUTDAFUCKUP #BigSeanvoice," she told her. "@TEYANATAYLOR #isFrankenweeniecallinmesicklooking #callabitchupntellmehowureallyfeelcuntface #FuckUPayme #LILBITCH."

Teyana stood her ground and kept tweeting at Rihanna non-stop; "@rihanna shut yo punk ass up bitch. Fight ya own battles,"

"Melissa & Robyn never been about that life. Them bitches know wassuppp!"‎

Quite mature right?‎

The tweet that caught my eye however was Teyana's;

"Ya net worth and ya body count go neck to neck.#IndustryPussy"

Ouch!
