Former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu is dead!

published on Saturday, 14 September 2013

Yesterday I was blogging and saw this on the news. The former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Kokumo Agagu, is dead. He died after he slumped while attending a political meeting in Lagos. He was until his death a strong member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). I heard he had arrived from the US two days ago. I also heard that before his death, there were moves to bring him into the integration drive of the South-West region.

Dr. Agagu who was born on 16 February 1948 was Governor of Ondo State from 29 May 2003 until February 18, 2009, when a court voided his re-election as governor. He had his secondary education at Ibadan Grammar School between January 1961 and 1967, where he passed his West African School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate examinations. He proceeded to the University of Ibadan in 1968 to study Botany, but later changed to Geology, in which he graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Second Class Upper Division, in 1971. Dr Agagu went to the University of Texas between 1973 and 1974 for his Masters degree in Geology. Returning to Nigeria, he obtained a Ph. D degree in Petroleum Geology from the University of Ibadan in 1978. Dr Agagu was appointed by President Olusegun Obasanjo as his first Minister of Aviation in 1999 and later Minister of Power.

It is well!

May his soul rest in perfect peace! Amen!
