Photos: Rihanna gets a hardcore Maori tattoo with a chisel, ink pigment and a mallet!

She's already amassed a vast collection of inkings throughout her career. So in order to mark her recent trip to New Zealand, Rihanna decided to get a permanent reminder by having a traditional Maori tattoo inked on her right hand. While modern tattoos are usually completed using a needle machine, the traditional Ta Moko tattoos use a chisel, ink pigment and a mallet.
two-minute video of Rihanna getting the elaborate designs of lines and symbols from her fingernails down to the middle of her forearm from tattooist Inia Taylor at the Moko Ink studio in West Auckland.A description for the studio on the Moko Ink website reads: 'Moko Ink is the worlds first Maori Tattoo Studio specialising in the contemporary use and creation of traditional Maori and Polynesian Tatu.'We make one off body art keeping alive the language and traditions that are unique to the art form. All our art is custom designed for each person on a consultation basis.'The language of Ta Moko is used to design a unique piece of body art expressing aspects that relate to the wearer.'
In the video, the 25-year-old singer is seen maintaining her composure for the majority of the video, before she starts grimacing as the process comes to an end. Wearing a grey hoodie, Rihanna appears to find it particularly difficult as Inia and local musician Tiki Taane, who was helping him with the process, moved on to her knuckles - hitting the chisel with the mallet to place the pigment into her skin. At one point, Inia is even seen asking the singer to wipe away the blood from her swollen hand so that he can see what he is doing to continue the design.
Rihanna has the tattoo completed after performing three shows in Auckland this week as part of her Diamonds world tour. The video of Rihanna getting the traditional tattoo was uploaded onto Taane's YouTube channel, and quickly received hundreds of views and mostly positive comments from fans.Fan Santana Edwards commented: 'Good on you RiRi! She is one bad a**! NZ proud :)'And Davina Stonex added: 'Love her! Always get a tattoo when she's here! And gets it done the traditional tribal way!'Another user called Jockhulk wrote: 'This is awesome! I love she chose to go traditional she must really love thus country i have so much respect for her'
