JK MEETS TESHCARTER!!!!!
published on Thursday, 22 September 2011
On meeting Tesh Carter I was quite excited as she is the first ever female music act, first ever female rapper to be interviewed on my blog! (Please allow my excitement). Hearing tesh rap makes me proud that females are actually doing their thing and doing it well. I'm proud of Tesh and I just could not wait to interview her. When we met up some days back, she spoke about her troublesome days, her music and her new (soon to be a hit) single; "tell them". ENJOY!!
JK .In one sentence describe yourself and your music
TESHCARTER:. I see myself in the elite category..my music speaks for me.
JK. Educational background
TESHCARTER:. Went through my creche and nursery in St Glorias Lagos..moved to kaduna went through my Primary in Turaki International SchooL..Then my secondary school in Zamani College Kaduna. Moved back to lagos and I'm currently a 300level student in Caleb University.
JK.What was growing up like for you?
TESHCARTER:. Growing up was fun..I didn't rush into becoming an adult..I always got into trouble regularly (laughs).
JK.When did you first notice your love for music?
TESHCARTER:. A while back! When I was in high school I had a book full of lyrics..I remember some dudes in school back then would make fun of my lyrics, saying they were wack. I loved being alone then, I used my alone time to write and make up songs.
JK: Are your parents in full support of your musical ambition?
TESHCARTER:. Are they?? I really don't know. But they know I'm into music.
JK. Why the name "teshcarter"?
TESHCARTER: Chose 'Tesh' because I wanted people to know me with my real name and the 'Carter'..I used to be a lil wayne freak back then and the name grew on me people started calling me teshcarter so I was like teshcarter it is.
JK. What is it like being a lady trying to prove herself in the "almost" male-dominated world of rap?
Do you ever get bullied or overlooked?
TESHCARTER:. No. There's no discrimination because of gender. Rap was never tagged to be for only the dudes.. It actually is a plus on my side as there aren't many ''good'' female rappers out there.
JK. Who have you worked with in the industry?
TESHCARTER:. I've worked wit ozzy-b, bridge, ty, and some others.
JK. Who are you planning to work with?
TESHCARTER:. At the moment, MI.
JK. Does tesh have a boyfriend?
TESHCARTER:. Yes I do have a boyfriend, he's just perfect! (Laughs) next question.
JK. Tell us more about your single; "tell them" that dropped on the 21st.
TESHCARTER. People are expecting hardcore rap, "tell them" has got that naij rythm to it. I chose a club beat because I wanted to try something different. Its a tune!
JK. What has been your greatest difficulty since you started rap?
TESHCARTER. Having to do everything on my own..its not so easy.
JK. What is you inspiration though before you record or come up with your rap? Because personally I love your enigma track and your feature on "one time for the team"; the track off of OzzyB's "diary of a loner" mixtape.
TESHCARTER. Thanks! I just think of random stuff. It also depends on my mood. From my lyrics you could actually tell if I was in a bad or good mood when writing.
JK.What's the future looking like for tesh?
TESHCARTER. More Good Music...you will definately be hearing more from me.
JK. Finally I always have a parting question. If you were to come back to life as a fallen female rap artiste, who would it be and what will you change about her career to make it better?
TESHCARTER:. EVE. I've always been a fan of EVE. Eve did her thing and made a great impact, she had to give way to the upcoming. I wouldnt change anything. she's made her point!
