Idris Elba has received a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama at the 2014 Golden Globes.The 41-year-old's nod for his role as Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom comes after he failed to be recognised in the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, which were announced on Wednesday.The British star is going for a double win – he has also been nominated for Best Actor in a mini-series or TV movie for Luther.

Going for double: Idris Elba has been nominated for two awards in the Golden Globe nominations 2014, it was announced on Thursday Idris will go up against fellow Brit Chiwetel Ejiofor, who also has two nominations – one for his role in 12 Years A Slave and the other for Dancing On The Edge.In the Best Actor in a Motion Picture character the pair will fight off competition from Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Matthew McConaughey (The Dallas Buyers Club), Robert Redford (All Is Lost).Competition is just as tough for Best Actor in a TV series as Michael Douglas and Matt Damon have both been nominated for their roles in Behind The Candelabra and Al Pacino has been nominated for his part in Phil Spector.Best Actor: Idris is up for his role as Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, pictures here with Riaad Moosa, as Ahmed Kathrada Idris won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Mini Series back in 2010 for his part in popular BBC crime dram Luther.The actor's career has gone from strength to strength over the years, and after making a name for himself as Stringer Bell in US TV show The Wire, he has found critical acclaim with Mandela.His role in the film, which chronicles the late Nelson Mandela's life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa, has won him rave reviews.Double whammy: Chiwetel Ejiofor has also picked up two nominations – one for his part in 12 Years A Slave and the other Dancing On The Edge Success: Chiwetel Ejiofor also picked up a nomination at the SAG Award's which were announced on Wednesday It came as a shock therefore that Idris failed to be nominated for anything at the SAGs. Chiwetel meanwhile had more luck and was nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a MaleActor in a Leading Role category for his role Solomon Northup in 12 Years A Slave.The nominations for the 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced on Thursday, with Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde and Aziz Ansari joining Miss Golden Globe at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Thursday, December 12.Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will return as hosts at the awards held on Sunday, January 12.
